7. Actions of the special plan
Based on the analysis contained in the Information Memory, and
on the objectives established in this document, following actions
are proposed:
Action no. 1. Archaeological excavations.
The Special Plan establishes the following archaeological interven-
tions, which must be included in a General Research Project yet
to draft.
1. Outer citadel. Enclosures IV and V of the Alcázar: english
garden
Enclosure IV. It delimits a polygonal area, with the wall of the Gro-
tesque as eastern boundary, and a wall discovered near the Cenador
de Carlos V as Southern side. It covers an area somewhat higher than
two hectares between the Torre del Agua and one of the towers of the
English Garden. It coincides in large part with the current gardens of
Flores, la Troya, la Danza, Mercurio and Las Damas.
Enclosure V. Rectangular enclosure of approx. 450 x 100 m (about
4,5 hectares), located at he South of enclosures III and IV. It limited
to the south with the Tagarete Stream, used as moat of the fence
along the half-kilometre long to the mouth of the Guadalquivir,
next to the Torre del Oro.
2. Jardines del Marqués de la Vega Inclán
as this garden is one of the enclosures of the Alcázar yet to investi-
gate, archaeological excavations will be conducted in order to con-
tinue the research work of the whole enclosure.
3. Plots of the land occupied by the María Inmaculada Day
Nursery (former nursery school).
As a result of the intervention planned within the plot of the cur-
rent María Inmaculada Day Nursery, and based on the current
Law 14/2007 on Historical and Artistic Heritage of Andalusia, the
archaeological excavation of the areas affected by the expansion
works of the current building will be performed.
Action no. 2. Archaeological excavation and crypt in Patio
de Banderas.
In relation to this action, we have to indicate that the excavations
planned under this action have already been performed, pending the
implementation of the crypt and the archaeological interpretation
center which, according for the proposal of action, was established
in the house No. 15 of the Patio de Banderas, through which access
to the crypt was expected, and finally has been discarded over the
possibility that the future connection had an impact on the existing
archaeological remains in the Eastern side of the Patio de Banderas.
After the excavations performed, and given the impossibility to cur-
rently cope with the implementation of the entire crypt due to budg-
etary reasons, a project was drawn up in February 2014 aimed at the
definition of the protection system and cover of the excavated area
and the archaeological remains, as well as the development works for
the recovery of the existing square. The work planned under the pro-
ject have been implemented already.
As for the crypt planned under the Special Plan, in the southern
side of the site, the reservation of an area of about 130 m2 which
has restricted access to the investigated archaeological structures
investigated is contemplated, assessing the possibility of its future
conditioning for public visits.
Action no. 3. Comprehensive excavation of Jardín del
Crucero
The action involves the comprehensive excavation of the Patio del
Crucero, adjacent to the Gothic Palace, and should be included in
the General Research Project. The following objectives are thereby
achieved:
a. Recover and study of the ancient Islamic garden, valid through-
out the centuries until its blockage in 1755, after being com-
pletely ruined due to the earthquake of Lisbon, which would
changed its original meaning of lower garden, filling it and
leaving it as we see it today, definitely checking the origin of
the current high transept.
b. Enable the consolidation of the Renaissance wall paintings lo-
cated in the perimeter walls, currently undergoing restoration
works but adversely affected by the humidity of the environ-
ment. Remove the fillings of the current gardens would enable
natural ventilation.
c. Generate an underground space of considerable size and
unique architectural monument quality.
Action no.4. Opening to transit of the walls rampart and
covered surfaced of the Gothic Palace.
The enhancement of the military architecture that form the pala-
tine walls, its towers and its ramparts, is proposed for the public
knowledge as part of guided tours to the palace complex, of the
same nature as the guided tours currently performed in other en-
closures, ensuring the safety of visitors through deterrent and en-
closed elements that do not distort the monument.
The action involves the opening, prior archaeological study, of visi-
tors transit along the rampart of the perimeter walls in the follow-
ing sections:
a. Wall on Patios de la Alcubilla and Chorrón from the Torre del
Agua, whose access is through the Cuarto del Sol/Maestre.
b. Terrace of the Gothic Palace, whose access is through the
south-eastern spiral staircase for which is accessed from the
Jardín del Chorrón.
c. Wall on Plaza del Triunfo and Patio del León, whose access is
through a staircase located next to the entrance to the Puerta
del León.
Action no. 5. Incorporation of buildings belonging to
Patio de Banderas into the Alcázar
The process of transfer to the municipality of the various buildings
and gardens that formed at the time the Real Alcázar began in the
late nineteenth century after the transfer of the Jardines del Mar-
qués de la Vega Inclán, located next to Jardines de Murillo. During
